Hotels in Lisbon are spread out over the city centre, near tourist destinations, and not too far from airports. Price of hotels usually get more expensive the nearer you are to the city centre and tourist spots. Families can probably look for less expensive but private accommodation in Lisbon's suburbs.

Hotels and Accommodation

Visitors coming to Lisbon can stay at any of the variety of hotels, houses, inns, and villas in the city. Depending on the length of visit, visitors can spend a few nights in any of the hotels located a few miles away from the Lisbon International Airport. The hotel rooms have basic amenities like single or twin beds, shower and bath, satellite television, telephone units, and clock radios. High end hotels may have swimming pools, squash and tennis courts, spas and clinics, hairdressers, and souvenir shops.

Those who plan to stay longer in the city can stay in homes, apartments, or villas rented out by private owners. They are more expensive than hotel rooms, but they can accommodate a larger number of people. The houses are located outside the city centre and can be a considerable distance away from Lisbon's shopping districts and tourist attractions.

Student Accommodation

The New University of Lisbon has three student residences for local and international students. Two of the residences, Alfredo de Sousa and Lumier, are located within the city, while the Frausto da Silva residence is located near the Targus River in Monte de Caparica.

All of the three student residences have rooms with single and sharing occupancy. However, the university does not guarantee that it can accommodate all incoming students in the residences because it only awards the residences to students whose applications meet the specified requirements. Priority is given to students who live very far from Lisbon and those who have applied for financial aide.

Students who prefer to live in accommodation outside the campus can stay at the Sapateiros University Residence and Lisbon Youth Hostel located in Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca and Rua Andrade Corvo. All the tenants of these building-type accommodation share the laundry, kitchen, and recreation centres. Students can also find private accommodation like houses and apartments in Lisbon. These private accommodation have separate kitchens, shower rooms, and laundry facilities.

Students and visitors are advised to reserve their rooms or residences in advance. The hotels are usually full during the peak season, while student residences can be already fully occupied a few weeks before the new semester starts.
